Reuben Slone has joined Walgreens as Senior Vice President of Supply Chain Management. Reporting to President of Community Management, Mark Wagner, Slone will be responsible for distribution, transportation, systems integration and engineering, Lean and Six Sigma supply chain initiatives and community outreach.

“Reuben has deep experience in leading supply chain operations, improving service and efficiency and driving innovation in the management of inventory from distribution centers to the stores,” said Wagner. “He is a great addition to Walgreens leadership team, and we are looking forward to his insights and perspective as we continue to focus on making our distribution system more effective for both our team members and customers.”

Talbots Makes Cuts in Northeast and Tampa

Talbots has unveiled plans to reduce its corporate work force by 9 percent, or slightly more than 100 positions, as part of a broader effort to trim $50 million out of its annual budget. Talbots spokeswoman Julie Lorigan said most of the layoffs are taking place in Hingham,MA, with some in New York and Tampa.

The latest cuts follow Talbots’ decision in 2010 to close roughly 100 stores and a move in 2009 to trim more than 300 positions from the corporate staff.
