Psychology & Business degrees - Reader question

Reader question:

I currently have a Master’s degree in Psychology and am finishing up my MBA at Hopkins. I’m working in Federal contracting, but I am more interested in either a job that pays more, or working in the Intelligence filed. Unfortunately, I do not have the background for Intel and it would take a long time to get it. I guess I’m looking for career advice here. I’d like a job that doesn’t put me behind a desk everyday, something that challenges me to make decisions moment-to-moment. Any suggestions on jobs/careers that I could explore?

Recruiter’s Advice:

This is a tough situation you have going on right now. It is always difficult to switch careers. However, based on what you have said, I would be looking at something in business development or sales. I would say that your psychology background and desire to think on your feet and make quick decisions would blend well with a sales career. I assume you are a pretty good judge of people and can read them…that is basically sales in a nutshell!
