Overqualified or Underqualified? Interview Advice

Reader Question:

I have had a few interviews where I find out that I’m either overqualified or under qualified. Is there a way to get between these? What can I do?

Recruiter’s Advice:

There are three tips that I can give you concerning your dilemma; research, research, research. It is imperative that you completely research each position prior to committing to an interview. By doing this, you will ensure that your skill-set matches the position dead-on. The best way to go about this is to thoroughly read (understand) the job description and get clarification from the person setting-up the interview. Don’t be afraid to quiz them on any questions about the position which you are unclear. If they do not know an answer to one of your preliminary questions, then ask them if they could find out and get back to you. Everyone’s time is valuable – especially yours.
