Absenteeism - How does your company handle it?

Does your company implement punitive measures to discourage absenteeism or does it offer its employees incentives? Does your company have a gym or give its employees gym memberships or discounts? Does your company offer flex time? What’s working for you? What hasn’t worked?
Lottery System-One company uses a lottery system to reduce absenteeism. Employees who have had perfect attendance for the month are eligible to win prizes like bicycles, televisions, etc. They were able to reduce of absenteeism by 75% and reduce costs by 62%.
Play Poker employees who come to work each day are given a playing card. The employee who attends each day for 5 days then pits their hand against fellow employees with a 5 card poker hand. The employee with the best poker hand wins a $20 pot.
Nucor Steel pays is workers 5% bonus money for above average production. Workers can lose that bonus money through poor work attendance though. If a worker is late, they lose the bonus money for the day. If they miss a day of work, they lose their bonus money for the week. The result - absenteeism rarely falls below 1.5% a year. Employees were working so hard Nucor decided to give them 4 non-forfeiture days a year. Even with this only half their employees use their 4 days.
