Do the doors of Corporate America say Men Only?
Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at 10:40AM According to a study done by Cornell University, women are still being shut out of top executive level positions. As a woman who has worked in a male dominated field for over a decade, the study doesn’t surprise me, or any other woman for that matter. However, it still makes life a rather surreal experience for most working women.
Bertrand and Hallock (2001) examined nearly 1500 large U.S. firms from 1992 to 1997 and found that in 1997 only 3.4% of top 5 highest paid positions were held by women. - The Gender Pay and Employment Gaps for Top Managers in U.S. Non-Profits.
Time changes all things and in some cases that’s a really good thing!
“Indeed, the earnings of women in full-time management and professional jobs last year averaged 73 percent of men’s, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That gap can be explained to a large extent by nondiscriminatory factors, some studies have found, and are based on a division of labor in the home that relies more heavily on women than on men, according to Catalyst.” - Ten Best Paid Executives are all Men posted by CNN -
Hmmm, a division in the home that relies more on women than men is what’s costing women money? If I had a nickel for everytime a woman complained to me about that… yeah, I’d have to agree with that theory.
