If Quitting a Job is Easy, then Why Don't More People Do It ?

Leaving a job that makes you miserable to pursue a better career opportunity should be a no-brainer. Yet, many people continue to remain at their present jobs, despite what researchers have been telling us for decades. Stress plays a major role in how healthy we are, both mentally and physically. If you dread getting up to go to work every day, but you aren’t iQuitkey.phpdoing anything to change that, studies say that you will join the ranks of thousands of people who suffer from stress related health problems.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. You’ve got a thousand reasons why you “have to stay at your present job”. But, when you suffer from the health effects of job stress, the “reason why” you’re lying in a hospital bed will become crystal clear. The “would have, should have, could have” line of reasoning will replace the “I can’t” line of reasoning you had before you let job stress grab you by the throat and throw in a hospital bed. I’ve seen it happen. I have friends who have stayed in jobs that have stayed in stressful jobs beyond the point of “reason”. I have heard their stories about how stressful their jobs were and how much they felt they should find another job. I have heard their excuses about why it wasn’t possible “right now” and why I just have to deal with it. I have heard about the health problems they have endured throughout the years. I have no doubt that their “reasons” for remaining in their jobs directly attributed to their ailments. Yet, as a friend, all I could do was listen and encourage them to take a step in a new career direction.

Others will know whether you like your job or not without you having to tell them. Your body language says it all. If you could see yourself the way others do when you’re talking about your job, what do you think you’d see? Would you see a happy face or would you see a sad, angry, or stressed out face? Would you be smiling or would you be clenching your teeth? Do you see lines on your face put there by smiling and laughing or would you see lines put there by stress? If you’re not sure what you’d see, ask your friends what they see. Trust me, they know if your job makes you happy or if it makes you miserable.

If your job is making your life a living hell, ask yourself why you are choosing to continue to live that way. Ask yourself why you aren’t willing to change your life for the better. Then make a commitment to do something about it. Make a commitment to doing something that is in your best interest. You’ve been doing what has been in the best interests of the company you work for, haven’t you? Ask yourself, why you are willing to put the company’s needs ahead of your own. If it’s for the money, remember that in the end, and I mean the very end, you won’t take one dollar of it with you. You won’t need it. I heard a saying once that I think sums it up very well. It goes like this. “No one on their death bed has ever said “I should have worked more. What they say is “I should have loved more and appreciated more”. Since we only have one life to live and most of us will work for most of that time, why do people still choose to work in jobs that make them miserable? It doesn’t make sense.

Ok, I understand that you just can’t quit a job without having another to go to. Few of us have the advantage of being able to live off a trust fund. I understand the bills keep coming in and you have to have money to pay them. And I understand that competition for good jobs is tough right now. I also understand that sending your resume to a recruiter may help you find the kind of job you dream about. But, as they say “you can win, if you don’t play”. If you’d like to wake up every morning looking forward to going to work, let us help do that. It’s what we do. We help people find jobs they love for companies who want to hire people who love their jobs. And that’s the truth!  But, we can’t help you, if you don’t tell us that you need our help! The cost to you? Zilch, zero, nothing, nada. All fees are paid by the companies who hire us to find great new talent! If you’re ready to make a change, send us your resume or call our office at 770-517-2660 and let us help you get the kind of job and life that you deserve. Oh! Whatever you do, don’t press that IQuit button your keyboard, until we tell you to! :)
