National Day of Prayer 2007 - May 3, 2007

The 56th Annual National Day of Prayer will take place Thursday, May 3, 2007.  This year’s theme is  “America, Unite in Prayer.” If you’d like more information about events that are taking place across the nation tomorrow, please visit the National Day of Prayer Task Force website.

The SearchLogix Group would like to challenge you to go one step further than joining the nation in prayer tomorrow. We would like to ask everyone to perform a random act of kindness on Thursday. It doesn’t have to be anything big. Something as simple as paying for the food or drink order of the car that’s behind you at a drive-thru. That person may then do the same favor for someone else. It’s the little things that make a big difference.

The History of National Prayer Day

  • 1775 - The Continental Congressed issued a day of prayer. Thomas Jefferson argued that the U.S. should not have the right to declare a national day of prayer. He agreed that individual religious organizations should have the right to reserve a special day of prayer but he didn’t feel that the government should be involved in it.
  • 1952 - President Truman signed the National Day of Prayer in to law.
  • 1972 - The National Prayer Committee was formed and it created the National Day of Prayer Task Force. The purpose of the of the task force is to coordinate events for the National Day of Prayer.
  • 1988 - President Reagon signed a bill in to law that the National Day of Prayer should be held on the first Thursday of May.
