Oops Moments for U.S. Companies
Thursday, February 22, 2007 at 09:07PM Even the most well intentioned companies experience those “oops” moments when a product or service they sell goes haywire. Recalls made by the Consumer Protection Agency make me wonder “doesn’t anyone check that before it gets loaded on a truck”? Hmmm….
Protective Mattress Covers Recalled for Fire Hazard - well, so much for feeling protected as you drift off to sleep, hmm?
Drinking Glasses Recalled Due to Laceration Hazard - glass can cause cuts? who would have thunk it?
Energy-Saving devices on Heating Units recalled - energy saving heater? oh no, we can’t have that.
Bathtub bubbling devices may electrocute - “If the motor should fall into the tub, the bather could be electrocuted.” Think I’ll stick with Calgon or Mr. Bubble.
Aquarium Power Head Recall - “Water may seep into the motor winding terminals, allowing water in the aquarium to become energized.” Hmmm…they didn’t mention dead fish so would that mean the fish will just swim around the tank more quickly?
Fire Hazard Prompts Recall Of Ceramic Heaters - guess it’s too good of a heater, hmm?
Garage Door Openers Recalled Due To Entrapment Hazard -a problem with printed circuit boards used in affected garage door openers, the door may open or close without warning. This condition renders the automatic reversal safety feature inoperable. As a result, when the door closes, it will not reverse as intended upon striking a person or object. This poses a risk of injury or death if entrapment occurs. Parking outside is starting to sound pretty good to me.
“Tractor Trailer” Cigarette Lighters Recalled - take away cigarette lighters from truck drivers? Good luck with THAT! Actually the lighters had pictures of tractor trailer trucks on them. :) The CPA felt they were too attractive to children.
Refrigerator Shock Hazard - now that would definitely keep me focused on my diet!
