Technology Is A Wonderful Thing: Sony's High Definition TV
Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at 10:30PM I got my first look at a Sony high definition TV today and I have to tell you that I was VERY impressed. Want to get an idea of what high definition television looks like? Take a picture frame (minus the glass) and put it in front of an object or person. That’s the way it looks on high definition television. Well, at least that’s how clear it looked to me. The clarity is nothing short of amazing!
The one that I saw today (like the one pictured above) was at B.J.’s Wholesale Club. It had a price tag of $1699.00, which is still a little pricey, I think. But, like all new tech gadgets, the price eventually drops. If you can wait to buy a new HDTV until this summer or fall, I’d be willing to bet that you could save at least a couple of hundred dollars, if not more. You could use the money you save to buy a new TV Antenna to go along with your new HDTV. Yes, I said antenna. You can, if you choose to, get your HDTV signals for free. Yes, I said free! Click here to see a CNET video about that!
What I like about the Sony HD TV that I saw today, is first and foremost the picture quality, but that’s not all I liked about it. In my estimation, it was no more than 3 inches in depth. Anything that saves space is a good thing. The new HD TVs are nothing short of incredible! The picture quality makes you feel like you could “reach out an touch someone” (why is the song “we are the world, we are the children” suddenly playing in my head? hmmm). Yes, it’s definitely going on my wish list for Santa this year! That might be great timing come to think of it. Steve Jobs may have sent me a new Apple TV box, by then. (If you don’t understand that comment, this will help to clear that up.) Ah yes, dreams. They’re a good thing too. Technology progress is also a good thing! But like any new technology there is a new learning curve to overcome.
If you want to know more about HDTV, you can read more about it by reviewing the content of CNET’s course called HDTV 101. The course completed in early April, but you can click on the links there to get started up and over the HDTV learning curse. Oops, I mean curve. :)
