This Thanksgiving Day Remember America's Soldiers

Happy Thanksgiving from The SearchLogix Group to Americans home and abroad!

iraq signs.jpg As we share this Thanksgiving Day with our family and friends, we have much to be thankful for in America. Our family, our friends, our health, are undoubtedly all things to be grateful for. As Americans, we must also be thankful for the freedoms we so often take for granted. Freedom is not free, as so many have said before. American soldiers, now and throughout history, have fought and died to protect it. We hope that you will stand with us this Thanksgiving by remembering our soldiers who will spend this holiday away from their loved ones, as they continue to fight to protect freedom in the world.

Supporting America’s soldiers

Verizon Communications

During the holidays Verizon Communications is offering U.S. troops in Iraq free calling between Nov. 22nd and Nov. 28th and Dec. 22 through January 2nd. Verizon set up a state-of-the-art mobile communications facility so military personnel can make calls home. This is the fourth year that Verizon has provided free calls for military personnel in Iraq. Troops can speak as long as they like, 24 hours a day, and make as many calls as they want to. Verizon estimates that there will be more than 1 million calling minutes used this Thanksgiving.

Cell Phones for Soldiers

If you would like to do something for our soldiers but aren’t sure what you could do to help, take a look at the Cell Phones for Soldiers website. The Cell Phones for Soldiers program was started in 2004 by a 13 year old girl from Massachusetts and her 12 year old brother, when they heard that soldiers couldn’t afford to call their families back in the states. Join them in making a difference!

KBR

KBR, as part of the Logistics Civil Augmentation Program contract has planned a special Thanksgiving Day feast for America’s troops serving in the Middle East. KBR has been planning the festivities for months and plans to serve a full course meal to our soldiers. KBR, if you’re unfamiliar with them, are comprised of civilians who voluntarily work in dangerous environments to help soldiers feel a little closer to home. Many say that they sign up for the jobs because they feel that they can make a difference. KBR is a global engineering, construction and services company supporting the energy, petrochemicals, government services and civil infrastructure sectors. The company serves its customers with a broad range of services through two business segments, Energy and Chemicals, and Government and Infrastructure.

Take a look at what KBR is planning to serve the soldiers this Thanksgiving!

170,000 lbs of turkey

90,000 lbs of boneless ham

40,000 lbs of stuffing

10,000 lbs of mashed potatoes

90,000 lbs of cranberry sauce

10,000 gallons of eggnog

130,000 pies

fresh fruits

vegetable dishes

salads

home baked goods

John Young, KBR’s theater food service manager for the Middle East said that “KBR goes “all out” on Thanksgiving and goes the extra mile to make it a special day that soldiers won’t forget. Besides overseeing meal preperations, food service managers at each dining facility are also encouraged to create themed holiday decorations which must be made from scratch and double as food displays. Their service staffs create decorations using sugar-cube sculptures, ice carvings, carved melons, decorated turkeys, and special lighting to help create as festive an environment as possible.

“While the food and decorations are a big part of the festivities, we know that ultimately Thanksgiving is about taking care of those that are on the front lines and bringing happiness and joy to their lives.” - John Young, KBR theater food service manager -
