Time and Technology. Can you keep up?

Time and technology are always changing. Keeping up with them isn’t always easy. Sometimes we can gain on them though. Take tomorrow for example,  we’ll gain an extra hour of daylight because of Daylight Savings Time. Or will we? Technology, like time, is always in a state of flux. Every second of every day, someone, somewhere, is turning technology around to see if it looks better that way. If it does, they change it. Time and technology, they are the agony and the defeat of computer programmers, web developers, systems engineers, and computer geeks everywhere.

Time and technology.

We complain that we don’t have enough time.

  • Go to go to work. Get the kids to school. Pick up the dry cleaning. Finish the reports. Meet with the team. Pay the bills. Go to Jesse’s soccer game. Find time to eat today.

We complain that technology is too complicated.

  • Why do I need 4 half-inch manuals and 4 remote controls just to watch a DVD on my plasma TV with the surround sound on? How do I shut off this stupid surround sound? Why won’t my computer start? I got a Magellan GPS navigation system for my car, now all I have to do is learn how to use it!

We are impatient with it.

  • This web page is taking so long to load. Man, the Internet is so slow today!  Why does defragging my hard drive have to take so long?

We love it for making our lives more convenient, more exciting, more interesting.

  • I love my new cell phone. It has a camera! It plays music! Did you see the new IPod? I want one! How did we live without microwave ovens? I love my plasma TV!  Email me. I looked for you last night in the chat room. Jenny, remember to take your cell phone and call me when the school dance is over.

Time and technology. The day we can keep up with them is the day the world stops moving forward. It’s the day that progress stops. Like it or love it, technology and time are here to stay. Good thing, too. Without change, there is no progress.
