Who's Hiring from the Fortune 500 - Vol 19

“The height of your accomplishments will equal the depth of your convictions.” - William F. Scholavino The quest for a new job can be taxing and discouraging at times, all the more so if you are unemployed. Companies have picked up their hiring (evidenced by a slight dip in the unemployment rate) after returning to profitability and cutting to the bone over the last few years. The Fortune 500 is a great place to focus your search. Remember, jobs posted on company career sites form part of the “hidden job market” (hidden because they do not always appear anywhere else). Today’s companies range from consumer goods to electronics and collectivly have over 4,000 job opportunities.

  • Tesoro - Ranked 91, Tesoro is “an independent refiner and marketer of petroleum products” according to their website. Their career has a company overview right center page with links on the left hand side for Retail Employment, Experienced Professional, College Recruiting and more.
  • Murphy Oil - An international oil and gas company and ranked 92 on the list, Murphy’s career site has a brief company overview, followed by four areas for search - Corporate, Exploration and Production, Refining and Retail. There were over 3,100 job opportunities across the four categories.
  • Philip Morris International - Ranked at 93, PMI is, of course, the leading international tobacco company. Their career site has tabs at the top for Get to Know Us, Working with us, Our departments and more. Center left is a brief overview with links for international and specific country opportunities, with links to the right for How to Apply and Choose a Department. You will need to visit PM USA for jobs in the US. There were 33 job opportunities when I checked the site.
  • Emerson Electric - Emerson is a global manufacturing and technology company and is ranked 94. Their careers page has a brief video on the left side of the page, followed by a brief overview plus info on “what we do”, “our culture” and more. The right hand side of the page has a search box. There were 127 job opportunities when I checked the site.
  • 3M - Next on the list is 3M, another company that everyone has heard of, 3M is ranked 95. Their career site leads with a map of the world where you can select the region you want to work. There is also a listing of countries/regions to the left hand side of the map. Selecting North America, as an example, leads to a page with additional information on the company, a link to career paths and a basic search engine on the left hand side of the page. There is a link to an advanced search engine below the basic engine. The basic engine returned over 440 opportunities when I checked the site.
